If you're in the mood for a fun and entertaining night out during this Melbourne International Comedy Festival, then Cattle Call is a great choice. The show features a talented cast of performers who do an excellent job of engaging the audience and creating a lively atmosphere. The use of drag, including some fantastic drag kings, is a standout element of the show that adds a fresh and exciting dimension.
The story of Cattle Call is a love/hate letter to community theatre, filled with the high drama and low blows you expect. The lead characters, Victoria Beauvoir and Roger Anne Seahorse, are a delight to watch, and the actors who play them (Laura Trenerry and Patrick Dwyer) give fantastic performances that are both hilarious and heartfelt. Dwyer has a gorgeous voice and Trenerry seems to be able to contort her face into literal caricatures (see poster for reference).
One of the highlights of the show is the musical numbers, which are lively, entertaining, and well-executed. Even better, the audience is encouraged (if not forced) to participate, at one point forming an almighty choir of Stonehenge nuns!
But what really sets Cattle Call apart is the humor. The show is filled with hilarious moments, from the absurd situations the characters find themselves in to the witty one-liners and clever wordplay. The BeeJays, a group of performers who do a fantastic Bee Gees impersonation, are a definite standout and had the audience in stitches.
While Cattle Call may not be the most groundbreaking or innovative production out there, it's still a highly enjoyable and entertaining show that is well worth seeing. The performers give it their all, and their energy and enthusiasm are infectious.
Overall, "Cattle Call" is a fantastic show that is sure to leave you feeling happy and entertained. With a talented cast, lively musical numbers, and hilarious humor, it's a must-see for anyone who loves theatre and comedy. Be sure to catch it while you can!
